Bathurst burr

Meaning

An introduced spiny weed, Xanthium spinosum, whose burrs tangle in sheep's wool; a serious pest of pastures in colonial times.

Example

The bottom paddock is thick with Bathurst burr again, so the sheep are staying out of it.

Origin

Named after Bathurst, New South Wales, where the weed became notorious early on.
